The Yaesu Vertex VX-170 is a rugged, compact, high-performance FM 2 meter handheld delivering up to 5 watts of RF power. Following on the success of the VX-150, the VX-170 has a larger display, double the battery capacity and significantly higher audio output (700 mW). The 16 key keypad supports direct frequency entry and 4 column DTMF.

One exciting new feature of the VX-170 is Enhanced Paging and Code Squelch (EPCS) that allows you to page a particular station and only receive calls from that station, if desired, and a security password features that protects against unauthorized use. You also get one-touch access to the Yaesu WIRES-II™ VOIP Internet Linking System! An extensive menu system allows you to tailor the radio to your personal preferences.

Receive coverage is from 136 to 174 MHz and the memory systems boasts over 1000 memory channels. CTCSS and DCS encode/decode are included with split tone capability. The VX-170 is ultra rugged and submersible to IPX7 specifications (3 feet for 3 minutes). Your VX-170 comes with:  FNB-83 battery, NC-88B 120VAC ten-hour wall charger, SMA antenna and belt clip.
The VX-170 is discontinued, but the VX-177 "440 MHz version" is still available.

The Yaesu Vertex VX-177 has very similar features but covers the 440 MHz band instead of the 2 meter band. Receive range is 420-470 MHz.
