The Shortwave Guide has been carefully designed to give the maximum information in a clear and easily read format. Click the image above to view larger sample page. The first column shows the frequency of the broadcasts in kHz. The second column shows the name of the station making the broadcast or the broadcaster responsible for the broadcast. You can tell international from domestic broadcasts at a glance, as stations making domestic broadcasts are shown in italic type. The country column shows the ITU code of the country originating the broadcast. This may be different from the location of the transmitter from which the broadcast is transmitted. The fourth column shows the power of the transmitter in kW. The color bars on the directory pages show the duration of each broadcast in UTC on the. The color of the bar shows the language of the broadcast. Twenty-five different languages are identified by different colored bars, with the colour and language shown at the bottom of the page. Other languages, or combinations of languages, are written underneath a buff-coloured bar. The target area or country at which the broadcast is aimed is given above the bar; AUS for Australia or SAf for southern Africa, for example. A full list of these abbreviations, the ITU country codes and the target area codes, is given in the reference section at the end of the book. Also above the bar is an indication of the days on which the broadcast is made. Following the standard convention, Sunday = day 1, Monday = day 2, Tuesday = day 3, Wednesday = day 4, Thursday = day 5, Friday = day 6, and Saturday = day 7. If a broadcast is transmitted every day of the week then no numbers appear above the bar. If, however, the broadcast only happens on some days of the week then numbers indicating those days are shown above the bar. For example, a broadcast made from Sunday to Friday inclusive will be shown as 1-6, a broadcast made on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday will be shown as 1,4,6; and a broadcast on Sunday to Wednesday and Friday will be shown as 1-4,6.(The black bars are the continues Standard Time Transmissions (WWV, CHU, etc.) You can use these pages to identify a broadcast you have heard on a specific frequency, or you can scan the colour bars to find broadcasts in your chosen language at a particular UTC time.
