The Yaesu VR-500 is like having a miniature monitoring station in the palm of your hand. The VR-500 is the first to provide wideband coverage plus single sideband capability in such a small and capable package. Coverage is from 100 kHz to 1300 MHz (1.3 GHz) less cellular, in AM, FM-N, FM-W, LSB, USB and CW. You get 1000 regular memories (10x100) plus 10 search band memories, 19 starting point memories, 10 weather memories, 10 dual watch memories and 1 priority memory! You get tuning steps from 50 Hz to 100 kHz.

The VR-500 accepts a variety of DC power sources. For everyday portable use, use two AA cells (not supplied). For operation in your vehicle choose the optional E-DC-5B DC cable with cigar lighter plug. The 1.3 inch (32 mm) front-panel speaker provides clean, crisp audio output, whether you’re listening to FM broadcast, business communications, or SSB ham radio! Other features include:  priority, dual watch, band scope, priority warning, adjustable battery saver, alphanumeric recall, 20 dB attenuator, bank scanning Smart Search™. The controls are logically positioned. Both the LCD and the keypad are backlit. There is a 3.5 mm mono mini jack for speaker output. The VR-500 operates from two AA cells (not supplied). The VR-500 includes BNC antenna, hand strap and belt clip. The VR-500 is only 2.3 x 3.7 x 1 inches 8 oz. (58x95x25mm 220g).

The current Yaesu VR500 PKG configuration includes the FNB-79 NiCd battery and NC-60B AC wall charger. It replaced the earlier VR-500 configuration that did not include these two items.
