The patented COMPACtenna 27-450 was designed by Dr. Jack Nilsson N8NDL. This revolutionary antenna was originally designed to cover five popular ham bands: 10, 6 and 2 meters plus 220 and 440 MHz. It also provides excellent receive coverage from 10 to 1000 MHz. And yet the antenna is only 2 feet tall (with 4 inch diameter coil and resonator). Gain is +3 dBi nominal.

The 27-450 antenna require a sturdy 3/8"-24 mount not included. This antenna may be used in as a mobile or base antenna with an appropriate mount and ground plane. In a mobile scenario, the vehicle provides the ground pane. In a base scenario, a ground plane must be supplied. In the example shown above right, a simple 3/8x24 magnetic mount has been set on a 36 by 48 inch galvanized metal plate (available from Home Depot). The result is a compact, yet effective antenna for CB, VHF amateur, scanner monitoring and preparedness applications.
