About the author Bob Grove was born in Cleveland, Ohio and acquired his first amateur license at the age of 13. After graduating from Kent State, Bob taught science and then joined staff of WEAT-TV. Bob and his wife Judy founded Grove Enterprises, which was a purveyor of hobby radio communications equipment. Bob also founded Monitoring Times. His Extra Class amateur callsign is W8JHD.
