The Sony AN-102 indoor active antenna system provides improved reception over the long wave, medium wave (AM) and shortwave bands. It is designed for portable radios that do not have an external antenna jack.

For use on shortwave, you place the antenna module unit (shown above right) near a window. Then you connect the antenna module to the antenna controller using the supplied connecting cable that spools into the antenna module. A second supplied cable goes from the output of the antenna controller to a clip which snaps on to your radio's telescopic whip antenna.

If you are using it for improved long wave or AM reception then the antenna controller is placed behind your portable radio to inductively transfer the radio signal into your radio's built-in antenna.

This antenna features a 20 dB attenuator switch to prevent overloading. The AN-102 requires 4 AA cells (not supplied). A built in timer automatically turns off the antenna after 2 hours. Up to 180 hours of operation is possible with a single set of batteries.

The antenna module (with whip antenna) is 4 x 10.25 x 1.5 inches (100x260x35 mm). The antenna controller is 3.25 x 2.13 x 2.9 inches (80x53x70 mm). This antenna comes with a handy hard plastic black carry case (11.5 x 2.6 x 5 inches).
