Shortwave Antennas

The MFJ-1886 receive loop antennas lets you copy weak stations through strong levels of QRN or QRM. Covering AM broadcast through 30 MHz and beyond, its superbly directive element and bullet-proof low-noise preamplifier dig out buried signals normally lost when using wire antennas. With the MFJ-1886 you get:
Perfect loop balance for deep precise nulls
Dual-MMIC push-pull pre-amplification for wide dynamic range
Indestructible aircraft-grade 36-inch aluminum loop
Great portability -- weighs only 2-1/2 pounds
Mounts using standard TV-style hardware
Tough molded weatherproof enclosure for outdoor installation
Phantom powered with AC adapter and Bias-T included

Unlike many ADF loops, the MFJ-1886 is weather-sealed, very ruggedly constructed, and mechanically stable under all weather conditions. In fact, you can mount it permanently on any inexpensive TV rotor and direct it from the comfort of your shack. Weighing only 2-1/2 pounds and measuring 36-inches in diameter, it also installs easily on a tripod or handheld mast for portable use.

The key to the MFJ-1886`s superior performance is its balanced-input preamplifier. Dual MMICs operating in push-pull deliver an extremely low noise floor along with exceptionally wide dynamic range to handle overload from nearby transmitters. As a result, you enjoy crystal clear reception of weak signals along with bullet-proof immunity from IMD. High-gain amplification and push-pull symmetry provide perfect electrical balance to ensure deep nulls and accurate directivity. Please note this antenna is for receive only!

Installing the MFJ-1886 is both fast and simple. Mount it using standard U-bolts on any conventional mast (1-3/4 inch OD or smaller). All mounting hardware is provided. The loop`s preamplifier is phantom-powered through coax, so no external wiring is needed for remote installations. Simply use the MFJ-4117 Bias-T and MFJ-1312D plug-in AC supply that come with the loop, or use any external 12-volt DC source for your portable setups. You must supply the two 50-ohm PL-259 to PL-59 coax cables:
A short one to connect the radio to the Bias-T
A longer one to connect the Bias-T to the loop antenna.
Nearly any 50 ohm coax cable such as RG-58, RG-8X, RG-8, LMR-240, etc. may be used. See coax cable page.
We suggest the ABR 240-UF type which has the same flexibility as regular RG-8X, but it has 30% lower loss and is double shielded. The 96% TC braid and second bonded 100% foil shield reduces noise interference. It features a non-contaminating UV resistant, direct burial jacket. The center conductor is stranded. Heat shrink tubing is applied at each PL-259 to help weatherize the connector. These high quality cables are assembled in Texas by ABR Industries™ with American made coax.
NOTE: This is LMR-240 type cable. It is not LMR-240 made by Times Microwave. LMR® is a registered trademark of Times Microwave Systems.
